Owl Painting

Here is a new painting I did this morning before work. Its not very big, but I like it quite a bit, it was inspired by a webcam I found yesterday of an owls nest, which was kind of interesting to see, I'm used to seeing owls sitting still, but to watch them move around, eat, etc. was pretty interesting. More Felt Fabrics

Here are 3 additional sheets of felt I put together.

This first sheet is done in the same manner as the two from the previous post, this one is just my blue version.

This sheet is purple, and its hard to tell since the only camera I have is on my phone, but the two triangles in on the left are actually a light pink solor. You'll also notice the pins, I still need to sew this one flat.

This final sheet is woven diagonally, it actually took FOREVER to do, but I think the final result was worth the time...it also still needs to be sewn, however I think I will only sew around the edges, so that the weave doesn't get too flattened out.

Felt Fabric

So, Melissa and I were accepted into the Market, so its time to create! Here are the most recent things I've been working on. This is felt that I cut into shapes, stacked, and then I sewed all of the layers together using only parallel horizontal lines (They could also be vertical as they appear in these pictures). I'm going to use these sheets to create the front of some iPod cozy's. I think they are going to turn out really well. I think the back of the cozy will just be a solid color. There is also a blue version, however I have not photographed it yet!

Old, Old, Old, Old, Old!

Well, not that old. So going along with the theme of the last post, I thought these glass magnets might be a good item to sell at the Hogansville Handmade-Homegrown Market. I made these probably 4 years ago, but needed pictures of them for an application, so I thought I might as well post them here as well! Enjoy!

Possibility....

So I don't usually answer calls from my cell phone at work, but when there's not too much going on, and its my sister I'm willing to make an exception. Yesterday, my sister Melissa called with the prospect of having a booth at Hogansville's Handmade-Homegrown Market (www.handmade-homegrown.com). So it sounds like a really great opportunity. We would split the charge of the booth, and I would sell some items, and she would see some. Of course I would love doing this with Melissa, and I always appreciate the nudge from others to create something, because starting a booth like this on your own can be a little daunting.

Anyways, this idea came at the best time because literally the day before I had decided to try and make a sort of felt chain, which then turned into a felt bracelet. I think they look great and would make a great, cheap item to sell! So here are the pictures of my new creation, I hope you like them, and let me know how you think they would do in a sale type situation. I searched Etsy this morning and couldn't find anything like them (I'm not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing).

More New: Facets

This is another piece I did this evening. I've been sketching some little pen versions for a couple days night, and thought I might give it a shot tonight. At first I thought I was going to have to scrap the whole thing, but then I hung it on the wall for a little while, did a couple of other things and came back when I decided to keep working on it. There are a couple of magazine pages glued on to the piece just to give it a little more interest. I'm not sure that its done quite yet, but I feel better about it now!

Here are some of the sketches I did for this piece. I have a couple of other shapes that I'd like to do as well in the same style if I can get this one to work out!

Brand New Work

This is a small painting I did this evening on a piece of wood. I have several pieces of this size of wood, and thought I might do a small series of shell paintings on them since I have so many shells, I decided I might as well paint some of them.

Edvard Munch this weekend.

This weekend I was flipping through a book of the late paintings of Edvard Munch and happened upon his painting called, The Sun (included from ABCGallery.com, http://www.abcgallery.com/M/munch/munch158.jpg). I forgot how much I've always appreciated this painting and decided to put my twist on it. So I studied the painting for a while, closed the book, and went on my way, this is what I came up with:

Its definitly not as magnificent as Munch's original, but I'm really proud of it regardless!

Newer Paintings

Here are some of the more recent things I've been working on...mainly just doodling and having fun with them...nothing too serious here.
This was a painting that started as being inspired by a picture from a magazine with two people laying on the rocky shore of a river. Well, that painting turned out to not go over so well, and it somehow ended up turning into this bird!

This piece, which I don't think photographed very well, was inspired by a Georgia O'Keefe wator color of a sunset in the Arizona Desert. The original picture was so amazing that I wanted to have my own little reminder...it doesn't have quite the same effect, so I may try this one again.

This is inspired by the same piece by Georgia O'Keefe that was the inspiration for the third drawing down in my, "Finally, a new post," post. :)

Finally, this is a little fish I did with Colored Pencil and metallic powder on wood. I'm not sure why I decided to put the "handle" on his head, but I thought it was interesting, and almost turns it into a toy or something. I like how it turned out though!

More Old Things

Here are some more painting/drawings that I haven't posted yet, some of these have been around a while!

I did this one because I had a kind of weird shape piece of wood and thought it could be cool...I like it! lol.

This one is based on a Swarovski Crystal ad from a magazine, it is acrylic and charcoal on brown craft paper. The edges have been cleaned up by being sewn under.

This piece is colored pencil and charcoal on brown craft paper.

These are misc. pages from magazines which I have glued together with some velvet ribbon to tie. Its not really very functional!
